The Low Down on Prescription Eyeglasses

Our vision is a delicate sense, and thus our eyes must be treated with care. Things like infection, improper lighting, corneal scratching, and other impairments to the eye are serious matters, and should only be dealt with under the supervision of an optometrist or ophthalmologist. Obviously, the most common resolution to eye conditions is that of prescription glasses.

There are a couple of common mistakes people make when purchasing eyeglasses. Those with slight visual impairments tend to “fix” the problem on their own, self-prescribing and buying off-brand glasses rather than consulting an eye doctor. They do not visit an eye care clinic and wear the glasses they feel comfortable in. Wearing the wrong prescription, however, leads to a weakening in the eye muscles and can lead to worse eyesight or loss of sight all together. Glasses should always be worn under the supervision of an eye doctor, who can diagnose visual problems beyond simply “near-sighted” or “far-sighted” The right pair of glasses can keep you seeing sharply and effectively, with limited risk of further eyesight loss. Of course, additional remedies, such as laser eye surgery, can be explored, but these “fixes” tend to be costly and are not necessarily effective.

One large reason for eyesight weakening is the introduction of new technologies including Computers, laptops, Televisions, Cell phones, Tablets and related accessories. It is for this reason that the weakening of eyesight is much more common in young students as compared to older people- they are further exposed to poorly lit consoles and devices and, thus, put undue strain on their eyes. This results in weakening of eyesight. There are also simple genetic factors that may make one’s eyesight naturally weaker than 20/20. These are not problems, as long as a certified medical professional is consulted. Therefore, eyeglasses prescribed by optometrists or ophthalmologists should be used in order to keep one’s eyes safe and prevent it from further getting weakened. If any text seen by you is blurred, it indicates that your eyesight is weak and that they should be checked and eyeglasses should be used as prescribed. Using your own techniques would save your money but not your eyes so a prescribed eyewear is preferable.
