Why Choose wide view Progressive Lenses?

I have always been a wearer of Standard Progressives. I got my new prescription today from my eye doctor. And I am looking to purchase a new pair of progressive glasses. I have learned there is another type of progressive lenses which are the wide view progressives. So, what are wide view progressives? Why or why not chose wide view?

There are two aspects to consider when you choose progressive lens, lens thickness and lens technology

There are 2 types of progressive technology on the market. Traditional Progressive and "Wide View" Free Form Progressive.Traditional progressive's view are limited to a channel in the middle of the lens, called field of view. If you look outside the field of view such as edge of the lens, you might see distortion. While "Wide View" progressive has twice as big field of view than traditional progressive, therefore you rarely have any distortion in your viewing area, which makes it more comfortable to wear and easier to adjust to.

Standard progressives have viewing channels or field of view which is at the center of the lenses, seeing distortion outside the viewing channel is pretty normal. Wide view progressives allows wider area of field of view therefore reducing distortion.
