SEG HT = SEGMENT HEIGHT - is the distance from the lowest portion of the eyewear to the top horizontal line of the Segment. You will need to know the Segment Height for the frame you chose. You might need to take the frame to the optician for him to measure the Seg. Height for this particular kind of frame to fit properly.

To measure multifocal fitting heights, sit opposite the patient, adjust the frame so that it is straight and comfortable for the wearer. Ask the patient to put on the glasses where they are comfortable wearing them. Then, with your eyes at the same height as the patients dot the fitting height with a marking pen. For bifocals and trifocals, the starting points are top of lower lid for bifocals and top of lower pupil margin for trifocals. For progressives it is pupil center. Next, remove the glasses and draw a straight line (about an inch) across the dot. Place the pen against the table edge, dot against the pen and slide the glasses right and left. See the illustration.

I was wondering if you have a thick eyeglass Rx, is it customary that you be measured for PD (pupillary distance) and the SH (segment height) to ensure that your eyes are measured to have the optical center sit based on how your eyes are in that particular style of frame?
I was curious because some lenses, your eyes sit higher up towards the upper end of the frame and not necessarily in the horizontal center. It just seems they only measure the PD (distance between each eye to the inner part of frame, and give no mind to the horizontal placement of your eyeballs to the frame you chose and how the lens sits. |

NO, There is no additional or extra cost for the Segment height, its the measurement that help you fit the frame properly.
