Default Are plastic frames light weight than metal frames?

I am used to wearing a pair of metal frames, not only because I can adjust the nose piece and how the glasses sits on my nose but also I love the fit and the style of metal. But they really are heavy especially if you have high prescription lenses. I was told to try plastic frames. Is it true that they are more light weight than metal frames?
