Went to walmart this morning but the pharmacist was tied up.
Purchased a bottle of Equate Artifical Tears. Damn left eye is
driving me nuts. It is as you describe - dry, itchy, and yes,
painful. The drops appear to lessen it, but still exists. This
morning it was real bad. If the drops do not resolve the
problem, then Monday I will go and see the walmart
optomistrist and to see what is developing. I've never
experienced problems with my eyes before.

You need to visit an eye doctor immediately.

yes, you really need to visit your optometrist, to avoid more complication on your eyes,
