why do eyes water?

walking home from school on a windy November day when — whoosh! — a breezy blast smacks in my face. As my teeth start to chatter and i pull my jacket closed, i notice my eyes are tearing up. My eyes are tearing, but im not sad. What's going on? My eyes are "watering."
