Students with a visual acuity of 20/20 can clearly see what most others can see at a distance of twenty feet. Weaker visual acuities are expressed as 20/ followed by gradually increasing numbers. For example, a student with a visual acuity of 20/50 indicates he must be within twenty feet to see what others can see clearly at fifty feet.

One's visual acuity is an indication of the clarity or clearness of one's vision. It is a measurement of how well a person sees.

A normal vision acuity or VA is 20/20. It means 20 feet away you can see clearly, that is your normal vision.

If something needs to be corrected in your vision, your VA number significantly changes. Example 20/30 where your right eye sees normal vision from 20 feet away and your left eye sees normal vision from 30 feet away.
